5 Days Mountain Gorillas and Chimps Safari

The highlight of the safari is the Mountain Gorilla tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. The forest, unique for hosting both gorillas and chimpanzees, offers a challenging yet rewarding experience amidst steep and muddy terrain. Nights are spent in comfortable lodges, including Kyaninga Lodge, Primate Lodge Kibale, Chameleon Hill Lodge, Mutanda Lake Resort, or Rushaga Gorilla Camp.

The adventure concludes with a transfer to Entebbe International Airport, with a stop at the Equator for souvenirs and photos. Depending on the itinerary, the safari may end in Entebbe or include a transfer to Kigali. SAFARI OVERVIEW

DAY 1: TRANSFER TO KIBALE FOREST NATIONAL PARK

Today begins with a rendezvous at your hotel in Entebbe, where our guide will lead you on a picturesque drive to Kibale Forest National Park. Known for its rich biodiversity, this protected rainforest is home to a myriad of primates, including chimpanzees, Grey-cheeked Mangabeys, Red-tailed Monkeys, and Red Colobus. The journey is a visual delight, winding through the lush green and hilly landscapes of Uganda. In the evening, a Bigodi swamp walk offers a 2-3 hour exploration through grasslands and small communities, providing a chance to spot various primate species and a plethora of birdlife, including the magnificent Great Blue Turaco. Dinner and overnight accommodations await at Kyaninga Lodge, Primate Lodge Kibale, or Kibale Forest Camp.

DAY 2: KIBALE FOREST CHIMPANZEE TRACKING

Following a hearty breakfast, the day is dedicated to chimpanzee tracking in Kibale Forest. With at least 12 other primate species present, such as the Red-tailed Monkey, Olive Baboon, Black and White Colobus Monkey, and Blue Monkeys, the forest is a treasure trove of wildlife. The diverse birdlife, including the striking Great Blue Turaco, adds to the enchantment. Dinner and a comfortable overnight stay beckon at the same lodge.

DAY 3: TRANSFER TO KISORO

Embark on a scenic journey through the western landscapes of Uganda, passing through Queen Elizabeth savanna grasslands and fig trees. The route leads to the breathtaking Kigezi Highlands, often referred to as the ‘Switzerland of Africa’ due to its picturesque terraces overlooking Virunga volcanoes. Chameleon Hill Lodge, Mutanda Lake Resort, or Rushaga Gorilla Camp will be your haven for the night.

DAY 4: MOUNTAIN GORILLA TRACKING IN BWINDI IMPENETRABLE FOREST NATIONAL PARK

Prepare for an extraordinary encounter with the majestic Mountain Gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Home to both gorillas and chimpanzees, this forest is a unique sanctuary boasting five other primate species, 113 mammal species, over 200 butterflies, and 360 bird species. The duration of the gorilla tracking is unpredictable, requiring readiness for a challenging hike through steep and muddy conditions. Dinner and a restful night are planned at the same lodge.

DAY 5: TRANSFER TO ENTEBBE/KIGALI

After a wholesome breakfast, the adventure concludes with a transfer to Entebbe International Airport. En route, a stop at the Equator provides an opportunity for last-minute souvenirs and photos. Depending on your itinerary, the day concludes with your departure from Entebbe or a transfer to Kigali.
